The illustrated children’s book “The Fox Family” (Fulton Books; 2020) by Merna Victor was inspired by the author’s chance encounter with a red fox in her backyard. The fox then returned six weeks later with four kits and a second adult fox.

“The story is about a fox family that began when a fox crossed my backyard,” the author said, “then kept circling my house (and) looking into windows. I noticed it did this several times over a few days. Then (it) disappeared. I kept looking for it.

“A few weeks later, I saw two adult foxes pass through my yard with four baby foxes (kits) between them.”

“The Fox Family” tells the story of Sidney and Lavinia Fox, soon-to-be parents searching for a new home. The Foxes had moved many hundreds of miles from their previous rural home to an urban setting. They find a new home in a fallen tree hollow formerly occupied by the Badger Family.

Meanwhile, Sidney observes the behavior of their human neighbors. He wants to understand the cultural differences between his family and the human families because he wants his family to settle well in their new home.

What insights could Sidney Fox get from observing the humans? Read all about it in “The Fox Family” by Merna Victor. Order a copy today on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
