Hong Kong Customs conducted an anti-narcotics operation in Prince Edward yesterday (February 7) and seized about 1.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia, with a total estimated market value of about $800,000. One person suspected to be connected with the case was arrested.

During an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Prince Edward earlier, Customs targeted a man who was suspected of controlling a drug storage centre located in the same district. Yesterday, Customs officers searched the subject premises and found the batch of suspected methamphetamine and drug packaging paraphernalia, with a total estimated market value of about $800,000. The man was immediately arrested at the scene. The 76-year-old arrested man, who claimed to be retired, has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on February 10.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.

Members of the public may report any suspected drug trafficking activities to Customs’ 24-hour report hotline 182 8080 or its dedicated crime reporting email account (crimereport@customs.gov.hk) or online form (eform.cefs.gov.hk/form/ced002/).
