The Make Em’ Smile Foundation is thrilled to announce the 10th annual Make Em’ Smile Toy Drive, a beloved holiday tradition that brings together the Reno community to spread kindness and joy. This year’s event will take place on December 15th at the Reno Public Market.

The event will feature a superhero-themed holiday experience, including professional superhero cosplayers by Cosplay for Kindness, a toy drop-off at the Reno Public Market, appearances by Santa Claus and his elves, and a variety of food vendors to bring the community together. No RSVP is required—just bring a gift and a smile!

Rizz, who you may recognize from rock-reggae group Rizz & the Believerz, is the founder of Make Em’ Smile and the heart behind this initiative. He shares his vision for the event:

“Beyond the toys, the thing about Make Em’ Smile is the power of giving. The toy is just an object to get the mindset there. It’s so much more than the gifts—it’s the power of kindness, the power of being there for somebody and making them feel loved. We start with the kids, but that mindset of giving carries into adulthood in ways that are so needed in society: practicing kindness just to put a smile on someone’s face because we know how impactful it will be. A smile, in the long term, could save a life. Your thoughts, your intentions, your smile toward somebody truly makes an actual impact in the world.”

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Make Em’ Smile Toy Drive, which Rizz started at the age of 21 to honor his late sister, who cherished her toys and loved to share them. Over the past decade, the event has become a staple of Reno’s holiday season, embodying the message that kindness and giving can change lives.

This year’s toy drive will support the Make ‘Em Smile Foundation with additional partnerships from local nonprofits. Ashlee’s Toy Closet will distribute toys to children in need, while Forever 14, a teen suicide prevention group, will host a “Crazy Sock Drive,” collecting fun socks for the homeless this holiday season. The Katie Grace Foundation will also join the effort, contributing to the event’s mission of spreading joy and support.

In addition to partnering with these incredible organizations, the event seeks to engage underfunded local schools, promoting a culture of kindness among young people.

As Rizz says, “Bring a gift and a smile,” and help spread the magic of kindness this holiday season. Make Em’ Smile is more than a toy drive—it’s a movement of giving, a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a world of difference.
