The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Miss Alice Mak, arrived in Singapore this afternoon (February 16) to start her visit.
Miss Mak, accompanied by the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Alice Cheung, visited the People’s Association and met with the Chief Executive Director of the People’s Association, Mr Jimmy Toh. They exchanged views on matters including development of community networks, enhancement of social cohesion and provision of local services.
Improving district governance and responding to district needs are important tasks of the current-term Government. Miss Mak was briefed by the People’s Association on Singapore’s experience in connecting with the community through different platforms, including the Community Development Councils and Community Clubs. She also shared about Hong Kong’s works on district governance.
With the resumption of normal travel, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB) has gradually resumed various Mainland and international exchange and internship programmes, allowing young people to explore the world and broaden their horizons. Apart from the HYAB staff, the YDC Youth Ambassadors also joined the visit to Singapore. This is the first international youth exchange programme organised by the HYAB after the gradual resumption of travel to overseas with quarantine exemption. The Youth Ambassadors visited Lau Pa Sat and the Helix Bridge today to learn about the local historical architectural features.
Miss Mak, Mrs Cheung and the Youth Ambassadors had dinner with representatives of the People’s Association in the evening to enhance mutual exchanges and understanding.
