Chicago, Illinois, USA – WEBWIRE – Tuesday, November 1, 2022
The Amulet Society, a non-stationary social organization that seeks to aid and empower women in order to achieve their full professional, philanthropic and personal potential, is proud to announce its partnership with and support for The Well of Mercy in Chicago, Illinois, by way of a donation and fundraising drive, taking place around the #GivingTuesday 2022 holiday.
This year and in the lead up to #GivingTuesday on November 29th, members and supporters of the Amulet Society can visit the organizations website (theamuletsociety.com) and via Amazon.com to purchase and donate items requested by single mothers residing at The Well of Mercy. Monetary donations can also be made to the Chicago-based philanthropic organization, one that provides safe long-term residential programs and addresses educational needs, spiritual growth and development, physical well-being, and emotional health, in order to help in many cases homeless single parents heal from often previous conditions of abuse, to find stability, and to start building a better path forward.
Sophie Joseph of the Amulet Society stated that, While many of us across the country are finding our own way out of the economic ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are so many single parent households that were hit the hardest at its onset, who continue to suffer in silence and in conditions of truly abject poverty. We have been adamant supporters of the important and hands-on oriented work of The Well of Mercy and hope to shed greater light here in Chicago and across the country as to the people they serve and the impact they have on a daily basis.
Single mothers are much more likely to be suffering from conditions of poverty when contrasted with married couples, recent societal research has indicated. The poverty rate for single-mother families in 2020 in the United States was 23.4%, nearly five times more than the rate (4.7%) for married couples, while the study further cited that in Chicago and across the country, more than a third of families headed by single mothers lived in poverty, and remain extremely vulnerable to homelessness.
In response, the philanthropic campaign championed by the Amulet Society will culminate with a #GivingTuesday program on the day, as hosted by The Well of Mercy.
The Well of Mercy by definition is a residential program which supports families holistically – The families may reside at The Well for several years and engage in five phases of intervention, all while learning to make better choices for themselves and their children. The model of The Well incorporates accountability of decisions, a full participation in the change process, and a familial experience in community living. There is child-care on site, as well as mandatory group sessions which explore parenting through Love and Logic, grief and loss, domestic violence awareness, budgeting classes, how to establish healthy boundaries, and social skills classes.
In-kind requested items for donation by The Well of Mercy include basic necessities such as twin-sized bed sheets, comforters and pillows, towels, womens and childrens robes, socks, shoes, toiletries, lamps, curtains and other items. Said items for donation can be purchased on Amazon and then donated here, from the Amulet Society website, in addition to the facilitation of monetary donations here.
Keith McCormick, Director of Development at The Well of Mercy, added that, We are thrilled to partner with the inspiring women of the Amulet Society as we accompany our residents on their journey to break the cycle of poverty and abuse. Empowering women of all cultures and backgrounds to be their best selves is at the heart of both of our organizations and Giving Tuesday seemed like the perfect opportunity to launch our partnership.
