Publishing industry veteran Martin Mos, Chief Operating Officer and Management Board member of Springer Nature, is retiring after 19 years with the company and more than 30 years in the publishing industry.  Martin’s numerous successes include overseeing the company’s digital transformation, the creation of an industry leading technology and production approach and leading the health and professional businesses to commercial success. Martin will be succeeded by Marc Spenlé who will join Springer Nature as Chief Operating Officer and Management Board Member on September 15.  Marc, who was previously Chief Digital and Information Officer for Barco NV, brings a wealth of experience from the technology and telecoms industries where he held senior operational roles and led digital transformations working in multiple geographies.

Commenting on the announcement, CEO Frank Vrancken Peeters said , “Martin is a hard act to follow.  His contribution to the growth of Springer and the successful merger to form Springer Nature has been enormous.  From the digital transformation of our leading academic book portfolio to the development of workflow systems that have significantly reduced publishing times for our authors and enabled the growth of open access, Martin has been leading the way.  He leaves behind a highly successful track record and colleagues who will greatly miss his humour and pragmatic approach.  My Management Board colleagues and I wish him all the very best and thank him for all that he has done to take our company forward.”

Frank continued, “ In Marc, we have found a great colleague who can build on Martin’s operational legacy.  He brings his own unique set of skills and experience from well-known brands such as IBM and Vodafone.  With a track record of putting customers at the heart of his digital planning and execution, we are very excited about the contribution he can make to our future development”.

Commenting on the announcement, Stefan von Holtzbrinck, Chair of Springer Nature said, “The Supervisory Board and I wish Martin well in his retirement and thank him very much for the immense contribution he has made over the past two decades.  We welcome his successor Marc who not only brings a wealth of digital knowledge and operational experience to this important role but also a highly collaborative and inclusive style. “

Marc will join the Management Board of Springer Nature and will take responsibility for the global operations of Springer Nature to include IT customer service, facilities and production.
