Dr. Dawn DiRaimondo, author of “Surviving Sibling Loss” (Outskirts Press, 2020), will be featured at the LA Times Festival of Books in Spring 2022. This book chronicles the author’s grief and bereavement over the death of Michael DiRaimondo while serving in the army in 2004. When her brother died, she felt an unimaginable pain in her body, as if a part of herself died. She was heartbroken and helpless after losing her brother in Iraq, and in her grief, she found one book about sibling loss to comfort her.

Then, in 2019, a client told her that there were still very few books about sibling loss. She was taken aback and realized it was time to start writing. It was then she started writing a book about her brother’s death, which she wished she had then.

“Surviving Sibling Loss” is the gold standard of grief books, helping not only people who are grieving but also their therapists, partners, and friends better support their loved ones. The chapters are deliberately short and full of easy-to-find resources, and the book can be read from cover to cover or picked up and put down again and again. This structure helps those who are struggling, who easily become fatigued and lose focus easily under the weight of their grief. Which comes to no surprise given Dr. Dawn’s experience and work as a clinical psychologist whose specialties include working with clients who have experienced significant loss, including the loss of children, siblings, spouses, grandchildren, and young parents.

According to IRIE, Amazon Reviewer, the book has touched readers in a way “…or rather to anyone that has lost a sibling or a loved one. Wherein the author allows the reader inside her grief as well as her family’s grief to explain to the reader that grief is a personal journey and not all journeys are the same.” She highlights how it brought her into the author’s world and learned how a sibling’s loss is so different than any other loss of a family member.

Overall, Dr. Dawn’s new release interweaves her personal and professional experience with bereavement, as well as the perspectives of fourteen people she interviewed who have also lost siblings. An inspiring and moving piece with “5-Star Reviews” from Amazon Readers, including Verified Purchasers, on the account of the authors’ personal experience with loss.
