This year’s rendition of Miami Art Week will be unlike any other. The accelerating tech ecosystem is taking over the city and turning Miami Art week into Miami Art x Tech week. Specifically, the cryptocurrency industry is paramount in making this year’s Miami Art(Tech) Week a revolutionary showing of digital art. At the pinnacle of both of these world’s is the emergence of NFTs or non-fungible tokens, which have taken the world by storm in 2021 with brands such as the NBA and celebrities like Snoop Dogg hopping on board.
Miami Art Week provides a unique opportunity to showcase digital art as a top contender for creators to monetize and distribute their content amongst traditional channels.
By creating a one-of-a-kind token, the certificate of ownership cannot be duplicated, thus guaranteeing the authenticity of the work. NFTs can ensure that artists get compensated for the reselling of their work, meaning they benefit if it goes up in value, not just the buyer. Markets are being transformed by transactions that no longer require trust in layers of middlemen and overcome counterfeiting.
Standing at the forefront of the movement is local Miami start-up BitBasel, which prides itself on being Miami’s Original CryptoArt Community. December 5th marks the one-year anniversary of BitBasel’s first event held in Wynwood that brought together top leaders in the NFT space (virtually) to discuss and innovate on how technology is revolutionizing the way media is distributed and completely changes the rules of ownership. BitBasel returns to Miami Art Week for a week-long VIP event series in partnership with BridgingTheGap Ventures hosted at the Sagamore Hotel.
Winners of BitBasel’s CryptoArt Hackathon in partnership with BridgingTheGap Ventures—whose mission is to alleviate barriers of participation and provide accessible skill enrichment to emerging talent on a global scale—will be on display 24/7 amidst panel discussions and poolside events. Together, BitBasel and BridgingTheGap’s goal is to sell $11,000,000 of NFTs for impact and youth empowerment.
Garnering attention from celebrity icons NFTs are making headway in art, music, and even to the stars! Dr.Sian Proctor, a SpaceX astronaut and the mission pilot for Inspiration4, will be on board with us to debut and discuss her motto Space2inpsire Art. Dr. Proctor encourages creating a J.E.D.I. Space: a Just, Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive space for all of humanity. She has a passion for combining art and poetry and during Bit Basel will be dropping her signature NFT collection “Seeker” on nft.goingtospace.com. She has partnered with the creative team at Subtractive to bring her creations to life in the CryptoArt world.
Back on earth, BridgingTheGap will co-host a special event together with Timbaland’s Beatclub x Girls Make Beats organization to empower young women aspiring to become producers, DJs, and audio engineers.
Among the many talented artists, we’ll be on the lookout for is Deadmau5, whose record label Mau5trap will be dropping “Deadmau5 NFTs IRL” alongside gallery artists such as Gregory Siff and Thank You X. The electronic music icon has been at the cutting edge of the NFT movement, having dropped several special edition collectibles on the WAX blockchain. Last month he even performed at a metaverse concert in Decentraland, a virtual world constructed atop the Ethereum blockchain.
