August 13, 2021 · Shediac, New Brunswick · Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
Atlantic Canadian organizations and operators continue to develop fresh approaches and innovative ways to overcome pandemic challenges, grow for the future, and deliver world-class experiences. That is why the Government of Canada invested to help Shediac Bay Yacht Club Ltd. successfully rebuild its water infrastructure to meet current needs and prepare for the future.
Project will allow the marina to weather future storms
Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, announced an investment of $300,000 to the Shediac Bay Yacht Club. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.
The Province of New Brunswick also contributed $300,000 toward the project through the Regional Development Corporation.
These investments helped the yacht club revamp the anchoring and dock systems, the marina layout, and breakwater. This project will ensure long-term sustainability of the facility and promote greater tourism-related economic benefits for the region.
Today’s announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to help communities build on their strengths and seize opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
“The Government of Canada is committed to boosting local tourism and promoting Atlantic Canada’s unique places, experiences and organizations. Investing in the tourism assets of rural communities will help them attract more visitors, create jobs and grow local economies.”
– The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA
“We are focused on diversifying the economies of Atlantic communities by investing in projects like this one. By supporting the yacht club, we are helping Shediac Bay take advantage of the community’s many strengths, assets and opportunities.
– The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs
“Investing in infrastructure projects like this is part of our government’s priority to build vibrant and sustainable communities in rural New Brunswick. This facility is important to the local tourism industry and will help contribute to the province’s overall economic recovery now that it is completed.”
-Honourable Gary Crossman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation
“As a not-for-profit organization, we don’t necessarily have all the resources to complete such a huge rebuild project in a very short time frame. Board members and management worked tirelessly for the past two years to make this a reality, and without this funding, it would have been almost impossible to rebuild. We now have a state-of-the-art marina to accommodate 200 boats of all sizes, with improved infrastructure like 50 amp electrical and Wi-Fi. The marina certainly has a very positive economic impact on the local tourism industry.”
– Commodore Hughes Arseneau, Shediac Bay Yacht Club
