With over 30 years of professional experience in the Energy Efficiency field, Katherine has certainly proven herself accomplished consultant and subject-matter expert. She is an expert Consultant, Executive and Best-Selling Author. Katherine is a dynamic, results-driven leader, who has demonstrated success and professionalism throughout her entire career. As the President of Johnson Consulting, Katherine provides evaluation services for energy efficiency in both electric and gas utilities for North America.
Before Katherine embarked on her professional career path, she attended Butler University and was on a championship Debate Team. She continued her undergraduate studies at Indiana University and earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Journalism in 1983. Katherine continued her studies and received her Master of Business Administration with focus on Marketing and Finance in 1990 from Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. In addition to these merits, Katherine obtained her Doctor of Business Administration in Strategy and Organizational Change from the University of Southern Queensland in 2010.
Dr. Johnson has completed more than 200 process and impact evaluations and has developed business cases for geothermal heat pumps, commercial and residential lighting and solar PV systems. For more than 10 years, Katherine heads collaborative forums to help guide decision-making regarding the evaluation and cost-effectiveness of current and emerging energy efficiency tools and policy initiatives. She works closely with investor-owned, rural electric cooperatives and municipal energy utilities.
Additionally, Katherine is an active member of the energy services industry. She is a sought-after presenter providing her expertise and knowledge on topics including effective program design, evaluation, and implementation for Demand Side Management (DSM) programs. She also speaks on identifying the “best practices” in design and evaluation and making the “business case” for energy efficiency programs.
Katherine is the Best- Selling Author of her novel, Grit & Granite, based on her father’s fight against one of America’s most powerful corporations. In her non-fiction book, Women in Business, she provides insight on how women can differentiate themselves in a male-dominant industry. Amongst these works, Dr. Johnson published Geo Heat Pumps: Leading Energy Utility Marketing Programs, she wrote The Geothermal Heat pump Chapter Technical Handbook for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and profiled all current HPwES Programs in the Home Performance with Energy Star Compendium.
Throughout her illustrious career, Katherine has received awards, accolades and has been recognized for her outstanding leadership and commitment to her profession. This year she will be considered for a feature article in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and for the Empowered Woman of the Year award given by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Over the course of her career, Dr. Johnson received the B.H. Prasad Award as an Outstanding Contributor of the Year and was interviewed on Close Up Radio. For 2020, Katherine was named one of Energy Central’s “Voices of Energy” and Energy Professional of the Year.
