Integrated health systems are considered part of the solution to the challenge of sustaining the healthcare system in the United States. With over 75% of office-based clinicians and 96% of hospitals in the United States using an electronic health record (EHR) system, nearly all practices have an immediate, practical interest in improving the efficiency and use of their EHRs. Some practices may be considering a replacement acquisition of an EHR to better care for their patients and reduce the burden on clinicians who need to use EHRs.

The HITECH Act passed in 2009 was designed to encourage healthcare providers to utilize electronic data recording and sharing technology—such as EHR systems—to improve clinical quality and care transparency among patients.

Since 2020, Panda.Health has been leading digital innovation with EHRs. Panda.Health transforms how health systems discover, procure, implement, and manage digital innovations that make life better for patient-consumers.

The Emergency Care Research Institute (ECRI) defines patient identification as “the process of correctly matching a patient to appropriately intended interventions and communicating information about the patient’s identity accurately and reliably throughout the continuum of care.”

Identifiers can include data such as patients’ name, date of birth, phone number, address, photo, and social security number. Despite all of these ways to identify a patient, mismatches still occur, which pose a major hurdle to more seamless nationwide interoperability and data sharing. Entrepreneurial companies, such as Wyoming Investor, are attempting to tackle this hurdle by focusing on the research, development, software, and AI applications that can be utilized in the healthcare sector.

Overall, integrated health systems are widely considered to provide superior performance in terms of quality and safety as a result of effective communication and standardized protocols. Although the application of an electronic health record (EHR) system requires time and effort, the advantages of acquiring an EHR system far outweigh the costs of its implementation.
