Contract awarded for Tuen Mun District Health Centre

****************************************************

The Food and Health Bureau (FHB) announced today (August 10) that through open tender, the operation service contract for the Tuen Mun District Health Centre (DHC) has been awarded to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong (the operator).

The operator of the Tuen Mun DHC is given a gearing-up period of up to 10 months in preparation for a three-year operation of the DHC no later than end May 2022. The contract sum for the whole period is $329.91 million.

The Core Centre of the Tuen Mun DHC will be located on the first floor of Rosedale Gardens Shopping Mall, 133 Castle Peak Road San Hui, Tuen Mun, with a total floor area of some 1 500 square metres. The Tuen Mun DHC will provide various primary healthcare services including health promotion, health assessment, chronic disease management and community rehabilitation. The operator will be required to set up satellite centres in various sub-districts of Tuen Mun within the first 12 months of operation.  The Core Centre and satellite centres will be open 10 hours daily for six days a week.

In addition to a core team, the operator is required to recruit and develop a multi-disciplinary network of medical and healthcare practitioners (including doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and Chinese medicine practitioners) practising within or next to the service district. Through multiple access and service points, the network of health professionals will work hand in hand with the Tuen Mun DHC by providing medical, healthcare and/or health assessment services to its members upon referral. The Tuen Mun DHC is also responsible for co-ordination with community partners which provide social welfare and healthcare services in the district, and make referrals as necessary.

The Government is gradually setting up DHCs and “DHC Expresses” in all 18 districts in a bid to establish a prevention-centred primary healthcare system in Hong Kong. The first DHC was established in Kwai Tsing District in September 2019 and the second DHC was set up in Sham Shui Po District in June this year. It is expected that the Tuen Mun and Wong Tai Sin DHCs will commence operation in May and June next year respectively. In addition, 11 “DHC Expresses” located in the various districts will commence services in the fourth quarter this year.
