26 Community Vaccination Centres extend operation for one month
***************************************************************
The Government announced today (August 6) that the operation of 26 Community Vaccination Centres (CVCs) under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme will be extended for one month. The 26 CVCs will continue to provide vaccination services for the first dose in September and the second dose in October.
Â
Starting from 9am tomorrow (August 7), the Government will gradually release the appointment quotas of the 26 CVCs starting on September 1 for members of the public to make their first-dose appointments. The Government will, in response to the booking situation, make suitable adjustments to the booking period accordingly.
Â
“The demand for COVID-19 vaccination has increased recently. Should the vaccination progress be maintained at the current pace or increase, it is likely that 70 per cent of the eligible population will at least have had their first dose of a vaccine by the end of September. In view of the demand for vaccination and the vaccination progress, the Government has decided to extend the operation of CVCs until October 31,” a Government spokesman said.
Â
“The Government appeals to members of the public to seize the opportunity to get vaccinated so as to help build an immune barrier in Hong Kong as soon as possible by significantly raising the vaccination rate, thereby restoring normality to society sooner rather than later.”
Â
At the same time, the CVC at the Hong Kong Central Library in Causeway Bay will be relocated to Java Road Sports Centre on October 1. It will be renamed as the CVC at Java Road Sports Centre and continue to provide Sinovac vaccination service.
Â
In view of the low overall utilisation rates of the CVCs at Queen Elizabeth Stadium and Hong Kong International Airport, the Government has decided to maintain the provision of first-dose vaccination services at these two CVCs in August and second-dose vaccination in September. The two CVCs will close at the end of September. Meanwhile, for better utilisation of resources, the CVC at Ap Lei Chau Sports Centre will operate until the end of September and will be merged with the CVC at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong in the same district from October 1.
Â
Members of the public can learn about the addresses of the CVCs and make reservations on the designated website of the Vaccination Programme (www.covidvaccine.gov.hk).
