The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The President of the Legislative Council (LegCo), Mr Andrew Leung, on behalf of all LegCo Members, issued a letter today (August 5) to congratulate Hong Kong karate athlete Grace Lau on winning another bronze medal in the Women’s Kata event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Mr Leung also extends congratulations to Ms Lau’s coaches and her training team.

Mr Leung said, “Kata events focus on strength and speed. Combining power and flexibility, Ms Lau’s well-controlled performance with utmost accuracy and power touches our hearts.”

Mr Leung added, “Karate is a new event in this year’s Tokyo Olympic Games. It is encouraging to see that Ms Lau has achieved such outstanding results in her debut Olympic performance. Having gone through years of tough training, she has overcome injuries and setbacks and displayed her distinctive individual style in the competition. She is a great example of perseverance and persistence, not only for athletes but also for every one of us.”
