Steven E. Lentsch, PhD, Celebrates a Successful Career in Chemistry

    APPLE VALLEY, MN, June 10, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ — Steven E. Lentsch, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. For over four decades, Dr. Lentsch enjoyed a fulfilling career in the field of science. From 1974 until his retirement in 2017, he established himself as a fellow and senior corporate scientist of the research and development division at Ecolab. During his career at Ecolab, Dr. Lentsch was responsible for providing oversight for the food and beverage, consumer, institutional and product development divisions.

Dr. Lentsch obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, formerly known as the College of Saint Thomas and Saint Paul, where he subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration. Continuing his academic efforts apace, he attended Western Illinois University, from which he attained a Master of Science in chemistry in 1972. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Lentsch received a Doctor of Philosophy at Texas A&M University in 1975.

Dr. Lentsch first took an interest to pursuing a career in chemistry while studying at the University of St. Thomas. Because of his success in academia, he was encouraged to consider the fields of engineering and chemistry. During this time, he was offered an internship at Ecolab, which he accepted out of curiosity. After about a month working at Ecolab, Dr. Lentsch had developed a deep passion for the field and began studying chemistry full time.

Dr. Lentsch is credited with the creation of Ecolab’s Solid Power hydrate. He and his team created the manufacturing process, as well as the dispenser. Additionally, he developed detergents, rinse aids and grease cutters to be used at low and high temperatures. Following nearly 20 years of service at his father’s company, Twin City Wire, he is proud to have brought their labor rate down to 8% from 14% in one year. Dr. Lentsch’s contributions aided the company in opening 16 locations nationwide and maintaining its status as the largest manufacturer of screens in the United States.

In addition to his professional career, Dr. Lentsch has held the position of the secretary for the Highland District Council of the City of Saint Paul and previously participated on the chemistry board of the Household and Commercial Products Association, formerly known as the Consumer Specialty Products Association. He is proud to have developed over 150 U.S. patents, including the patent for the Ecolab Geosystem 9000. Moreover, Dr. Lentsch was honored at the 2001 Industrial Innovation Awards, which was hosted by the American Chemical Society’s Central and Great Lakes Joint Regional Meeting.
