An uplifting tale of overcoming hopelessness and adversity, searching for faith and freedom.

It’s a memoir and part historical read that tells a story of a young man named Viet who suffered terribly under the Communist government and has experienced the ugly faces of war in his homeland. As the pages unfold, you will follow him as he struggles with his “broken homeland”, and flee Viet Nam to journey into America where he experienced along the way, “hunger, thirst, heat, sickness, waves, violent storms, sharks, Communists pirates, ideas of cannibalism, and death.” It’s an uplifting tale of overcoming hopelessness and adversity, searching for faith and freedom. Although he has escaped the effects of the post-war Communist regime, Viet was still in the shackles of discrimination and loneliness when he finally moved to America.

The book highlights the experiences of a war survivor who eventually became a servant of God. As a reader, you’ll also experience and feel for yourself the horrible situations and ordeals Viet had to overcome. Other than the war, he has witnessed so much greed, injustice, and cruelty that he almost gave up believing humanity and in God’s merciful way. Yet he stood strong and devote his entire life to God, and so he attended seminary school and was ordained as a priest.

Viet’s life story is a spiritual journey of finding a joyful life, a life of serving Jesus and other people. For a higher purpose, you will find meaning and happiness that no one—even those moments of loss and weariness—can rob from you. A fascinating tale of survival and life as a refugee after the war; it’s a chronicle of undying perseverance and optimism against hardships and misery. But most importantly, it shows how God has always been there for us, watching and making bigger, better plans for us. Vu’s writing will inspire you to hold unto genuine faith with the several scriptural verses combined with the lives of notable Christian figures.
