Bamboo is actually not a tree, but a type of grass. Bamboo belongs to the sweet grass family and grows all over the world – except in Europe and Antarctica. However, its chemical composition clearly classifies it as wood: the main components are around 70 percent cellulose and around 25 percent lignin.

In order to produce a floor covering from bamboo, the fully grown bamboo tubes are split into pieces. These lamellas are peeled, boiled, dried and then glued together into a single piece under very high pressure.

Different types of bamboo parquet with different looks:

The bamboo slats can be glued together into parquet in two ways:

Horizontal: In landhausdielen, the slats are glued to each other lying flat. The typical bamboo pattern with its trunk thickening, the sodium is particularly visible. The bamboo flooring is then structured and rather uneven. It makes it lively and interesting.

Vertical: Small vertical pieces of bamboo are used for vertical gluing. You can see a fine line structure with a more neutral look. This type of fertigparkett is suitable for everyone who prefers a quieter and more even look.

Once the slats are glued together, they are cut to the desired sizes. The mechanically sanded surface remains untreated or it is sealed with oil, varnish or wax.

Depending on the treatment, a bamboo parquet is available in its natural, light color or in a caramel-colored tone. The darker color is created when the material is thermally treated.

As a result, the sugar contained in the bamboo caramelizes. Different shades can be created through different types of surface treatment, for example with hard wax oil.

There are also two other types of bamboo flooring:

Fiber bamboo also called Strand Woven: These are highly compressed, compressed bamboo fibers. This creates a floor covering that is extremely hard and resilient. It works less than glued bamboo parquet. In addition, numerous optical variants are possible by treating the surface.

Parquet from a bamboo tube wall: Another way to create a floor covering from bamboo is to thermoplastic the bamboo tube wall. With bamboo, this type of processing opens up the possibility of making the naturally grown, heavily silicified and rock-hard bamboo tube wall available as an outsole or surface material. The surface is strongly reminiscent of bamboo cane.
