In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5 to mark the birthday of former President, politician, scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna recipient, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on the same day in 1888. Acknowledging this day gives an opportunity for all to be inspired by the life and teachings whose belief was that ‘teachers are the backbone and best minds in the country’. Dr. Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President and second President of independent India, and in 1962, the year when Dr. Radhakrishnan assumed the Presidential office, the first-ever Teachers’ Day was celebrated. Dr. Radhakrishnan was a staunch believer in education.

The day holds a great significance for students to be grateful for the teachings and values instilled in them with showcasing of various programs in schools and colleges on this day. Teachers are known to be the guiding light who leads every child towards the path of growth and learnings.

The reminiscing times takes us down the memory lane to 10 years back, where the essence of preparing skits of mimicking teachers and performing for them was a joy in itself. With the ever-changing times, studying and learning are no more confined to classrooms, internet users can learn anytime with the use of technology on their phone and tabs. While this may be seen as a boon to many, it has its own consequences as well. E-Learning cannot replace the essence of classroom learning, the significant amount of attention given to each student and shaping them as individuals cannot be replaced by an auto-generated learning module.

Teaching takes place in various walks of life, while the society is busy inclining towards academics; it has become a necessity to pay attention to mental health as well. On teacher day a parenting expert, child psychologist Kavita Yadav also a founder and director of JiNa living positively say “The way utmost attention and importance is given to the physical development milestones of children, their eating habits, their grooming, in other personality-related areas. It is equally important to work with children for their emotionally balanced and feel safe and secure and have proper control over their thoughts. They are the owns who grow up to be adults who respect others for who they are and not judge others based on their social status and big expensive cars and other materialistic luxurious.”
