There’s been a lot of shake ups in the handbag world over the last year, and one of the ones that I personally felt the most was Clare Waight Keller’s exit from Chloé. I adored Waight Keller’s work while at Chloé—she churned out big bag hits for the brand such as the Drew and Faye Bags. Though I was saddened to see her go, I was intrigued when she was appointed creative director at Givenchy. Truth be told I was underwhelmed by her first design for the brand, but today I’ve got a treat for you all and I think you’ll agree when I say Givenchy’s newest bag might be Waight Keller’s next big hit.

Brand new for Pre-Fall 2019, the Givenchy Mystic Bag is a slightly structured, top handle bag with replica Givenchy sweatshirts a flap top, and a tab closure with a snap. According to the brand’s official instagram, the name of the bag is an ode to the half-hidden lock, which when closed aligns to form a double G, and when open revels the metal logo plate. Currently it’s shown in solid colors, in what appears to be smooth leathers without a grain. It looks like there’s both a small and a large version of the Mystic Bag. The bag features a top handle strap, and while most top handle bags these days are released with a removable longer strap option, this bag doesn’t appear to have one. See more below.
When a new designer takes the reigns at a major fashion house, it sometimes takes a few seasons for them to come into their own. Clare Waight Keller took on the role of Creative Director at Givenchy over a year and a half ago, and a few seasons in, it’s safe to say she has made her mark. Though her first big bag design for the brand wasn’t totally earth-shattering, Waight Keller has steadily found her groove at Givenchy.

For Pre-Fall 2019, the brand introduced a new bag under Waight Keller’s direction, called the Mystic Bag, and for Fall 2019, another new style has emerged, and I like it. According Perfect Givenchy Handbags to Givenchy’s Instagram, this bag is called the Eden Bag, and it took center stage on the runway at Paris Fashion Week.

This new shoulder bag is either square or rectangular in shape, depending on the size—and there were a few of them—with rounded edges and a flap closure. It’s finished with what appears to be a turncock closure and the Givenchy logo. There is a mini-version of the Eden bag as well as a belt bag version, and the bag appears in multiple fabrications.
