Tata Power-DDL Awards Scholarships to over 500 SC/ST Students to Support Higher Education Under its Ujjwal Program

With an aim to support Higher Education of the SC/ST students, Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) organised its Annual Scholarship Distribution ceremony under its Ujjwal Program which is a part of the Tata Affirmative Action Program (TAAP). The Ujjwal Program focusses on aiding SC & ST students, mentoring them to improve on their educational performance and supporting the youth through entrepreneurship development to make them competent to achieve their dreams. Over 500 students were awarded scholarship cheques during the scholarship distribution events conducted between April 22nd – May 1st 2019.
Launched in 2007, Tata Power-DDL’s Ujjwal Program focuses on SC & ST students whose economic condition is not conducive for sustaining studies. These students are constantly monitored and mentored by the company so that they do not drop out and rather improve on their educational performance. Subsequently, the same set of students are taken through a customized Personality Development Programme covering Interpersonal skills, Career Counselling and Competency testing through the company’s partnered expert NGOs.

• Ms. Divya – Presently pursuing M.Sc. (Chemistry-Hons.) from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

• Mr. Nitin Kumar – Presently pursuing MBBS from Coimbatore Medical College, Mr. Kumar is a ward of one of the WLC beneficiaries.
Through the Ujjwal program, Tata Power-DDL is aiding students pursuing their professional courses like B.Sc., B.Com., B.A., M.Sc., M.Com., M.A. from University of Delhi; MBBS from Moulana Azad Medical College, Delhi and Coimbatore Medical College; CA from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India; M.Sc. from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, B.Tech from Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology under IP University; Electrician, Electronics, Mechanical Engg., RAC, COPA, Food & Beverages, Motor Mechanic Vehicle and Stenography from Indian Training Institutes – Dheerpur, Narela, PUSA, Mangolpuri, Jahangirpuri, Kasturba, Guru Nanak Dev, PUSA and Aryabhatt Institute of Technologies.
Speaking about the program, Mr. Sanjay Banga, CEO, Tata Power-DDL, said, “Under our social innovation programs, we focus on four critical areas – education, employment, employability and entrepreneurship with education being the most critical. As a responsible corporate citizen, it is our endeavour to help meritorious students from the SC&ST communities. Providing scholarships is a step in the same direction and I am confident our efforts will brighten their future.”
Tata Power-DDL has embraced several community development and welfare initiatives to educate, empower and to bring transformation in the lives of illiterate/uneducated women, students and youth who all are the occupants of JJ clusters of North Delhi under its Social Innovation Program named Saathi.
