Dr. Elder’s Medical Career So Far

Lana Elder received her college education in Ontario, Canada, earning multiple undergraduate degrees at Ontario’s University of Windsor. Her first degree, a bachelor of science in biology, was earned in 1988. Her second Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 was in the field of psychology and earned concurrently with her master of science in biology in 1989.

After completing her undergraduate education, Lana Elder moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she entered medical school at Wayne State University. She was a student there until 1996, when she graduated with her M.D. Lana stayed in Detroit to complete her residency, and did so at Henry Ford Hospital, specifically, in the emergency medicine department. She completed her residency in 2000.

After her residency, Lana Elder was permanently on staff at a number of Michigan hospitals and their satellite facilities. During this time, she was approached by the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians to lend her skills as a medical illustrator to two different publications. She was principal medical illustrator for both “ACEP EKG Review for Emergency Medicine” and “Musculoskeletal Photo and X-Ray Stimuli for Emergency Medicine,” for which her contributions were declared “invaluable.”

Years of professional experience in the state of Michigan led to a number of offers from hospitals as far-flung as New Hampshire, Maine, Texas, and Florida. Dr. Elder held contracts at many hospitals in these areas. In particular, she was recognized frequently as a monthly performance and productivity leader at Cedar Hill Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

The Future for Dr. Lana Elder

Though Dr. Elder cites her years in these areas as an excellent learning experience, she chose to complete a course to become a medical review officer in the state of Florida. Dr. Elder anticipates her imminent announcement as the appointed medical review officer and medical director for a Stuart, Florida-based urgent care facility. Dr. Elder looks forward to her new position and eagerly anticipates her positive effect on the lives of many Stuart residents.
