A Look at the Stages
The Manhattan Center’s stages are legendary because of their amazing acoustics, beautiful designs, and versatile spaces. The Hammerstein was established in 1906 by theatrical producer Oscar Hammerstein. It has a 75-foot hand-painted ceiling covering a 12,000 square foot room. There’s no shortage of accommodation with 2,200 theater-style seats, 12 opera boxes, 535 1st balcony seats, 535, 2nd balcony seats, and 80 lower level sections, and 10 dressing rooms. It can also accommodate 1,000 dinner and 3,500 reception-style seats.
The more intimate stage is The Grand, at 10,000 square feet. It’s a flexible space that can host live performances, TV productions, or even corporate meetings. It can take on 1,200 reception-style, 1,200 theater-style, and 600 dinner seats. It has five dressing rooms and a 63×24 ft. salon.
Cutting-Edge Technology
The Hammerstein has a powerful Front of House System, sporting 12 boxes of L’acoustics K2 per side and six SB28 subwoofers per side. It also has an Avid Profile console with five DSP mix engines. For monitoring, it has 16 L’Acoustics 115 HiQ wedges and two ARC2 and one SB 28 sidefills per side. Like the FOH, the monitor system also has an Avid Profile console. The stage also has a plethora of microphones to choose from like the Shure UFH-R wireless, the Shure Beta 98, the Audio Technica 4051, and more. Radial JDI and J48 DI boxes also support input from instruments.
Its video system has Christie Roadster 14K and 20K projectors supported by a Panasonic 450 switcher. The lighting system has Mac Viper profiles and washes, 26-degree Lekos, four-light Molefay units, and 5 Atomic 3000 strobes. These are all controlled from a Grand MA II console.
The Grand has a Nexo Front of House and Monitor System. The FOH has eight GEOS1210s, one GEOS1230s, and three Alpha S2-PF dual 18” subwoofers per side. It also has Yamaha IF2208 front fills and T3N, T5N, and PC6501N amplifiers. These are powered by a Yamaha CL5 console. Its monitor system features 10 PS15 bi-amped wedges and two PS15BAS 15” drum subs. It also has excellent microphones such as Shure Beta 91, AKG 460, Sennheiser MD 421, and more.
