World’s Best CSR Corporations Honoured At The Industry’s Top CSR Awards At The 11th Global CSR Summit & Awards And The Global Good Governance Awards

The 11th Annual Global CSR Summit & Awards held in conjunction with The Global Good Governance Awards ended recently on a high note with a full house turnout of over 220 regional and international delegates, which was held for the first time at Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia.

Held at the Pullman Kuching, the conference kick-started with an enchanting performance by WARISAN SAPE TELANG USAN, a talented local SAPE music and dance troupe supported by Sarawak Energy’s CSR programme. In line with the conference theme: “A New Era of Corporate Responsibility & Activism”, Group CEO of Sarawak Energy, Datu Sharbini Suhaili, delivered the opening keynote address entitled: “Creating Value Through Corporate Activism” The keynote speaker highlighting how companies such as Sarawak Energy can actively delivery value and change by integrating their CSR programmes to be aligned with the three pillars of sustainability – Economic, Social and Environmental. About 25 international speakers were present at the event sharing some of their unique experiences on topics such as CSR in the boardroom, social activism, environmental protection, women empowerment and circular economy to name a few.

Among the notable speakers, Mr Stefan Phang, Director, Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility for Diversey, Inc gave a powerful speech on “The Darkside of Tourism”, where he shared on the rampant exploitation of children in Cambodia. He explained Linens for Life – a signature Diversey’s CSR initiatives for hotels where linens are used as stretchers and burial material for typhoon disaster victims. He ended his speech and challenged the attendees with a quote by Nelson Mandela: “Vision without action is just a dream. Action without vision is a waste of time. Vision with action can change the world.”

The event ended with the awards segment The Global CSR AwardsTM and The Good Governance AwardsTM graced by guest of honour YB Dato Sri Hajjah Fatimah Abdullah, Minister For Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family And Childhood Development. Dr Martin Blake, the Conference Chairman and a member of the judging committee commented: “The 11th Annual Global CSR Summit & AwardsTM held in conjunction with The Global Good Governance AwardsTM held in Kuching today was a very well attended and successful event. There were participants from all over Asia and some even travelled from as far as Australia, Dubai, UAE, Taiwan, India etc. The quality of the presentations was high and the content was at the contemporary cutting edge of CSR. Finally, the calibre of the entries for the awards was truly outstanding, in particular, a significant ‘well done’is deserved by Sarawak Energy and Sinyi Realty who won multiple awards and appropriately reflecting the quality of the entries.”
