Data Control Technitic to unveil new handheld scanner for construction industry.
Hong Kong-based LiDAR pioneer, Data Control Technitic says plans are afoot to launch a handheld LiDAR scanner for use within the construction industry.
The device will enable construction teams and geologists to access powerful, detailed analytics that will help them understand the characteristics of a site in a variety of new and exciting ways. The scanner is one of a number of ways in which Data Control Technitic is diversifying its focus on applications besides autonomous vehicle applications. The new scanner is reportedly capable of scanning at a range of 150 meters and features accuracy to within 2cm.
Data Control Technitic’s Chief Marketing Officer says the firm is keen to make working with point clouds more convenient and manageable and the new device will improve workflow by processing scans on the actual device and by deploying powerful new software that reduces processing wait time.
“The general idea is that the device will be powerful enough to give you your point cloud as you move through the area you’re surveying in more or less real time. The final representation will take around 30 minutes to build but we hope to bring that down to 15 by the time the device is ready for launch,” said Data Control Technitic’s Chief Technology Officer.
Data Control Technitic has recently instigated an aggressive campaign to expand its distribution network particularly in the United States in a bid to tap the demand for LiDAR functionality within the commercial drone market as well as in security applications and the handheld scanner would help with its diversification efforts.
