Melodic Sarod recital by Pt. Prabhat Kumar
The music lovers of city beautiful were treated to a scintillating Sarod recital by Prabhat Kumar on the occasion of the 255th Monthly Baithak Programme organized by Pracheen Kala Kendra here today. M.L. Koser Indoor Auditorium of Kendra reverberated in an ebb and flow between the melodious strings from the masterful performance and the applause of the audience. Prabhat kept the audience enthralled by the sheer and clean beauty of his skillful fingers racing the length of the Sarod.
Pandit Prabhat Kumar , a brilliant performer, is acclaimed as one of the most outstanding Sarod players of the country today amongst the present generation. Prabhat Kumar has the honour and privilege of learning Sarod from the legendary Sarod maestro Guru Padma Bhushan Smt. Sharan Rani with whose name Sarod has become synonymous all over the world. Since his childhood, he had an intense longing to learn sarod only from her in the true Guru-Shishya parampara style of the Senia Maihar gharana, in a manner in which Guru also becomes the Ma'(mother) for her `shishya’ (disciple). He has been giving solo Sarod recitals in various parts of India and abroad including in prestigious music festivals .
Prabhat Kumar has given several fusion recitals with various Western musicians and also with various Western Bands. He is also associated with several Music Institutions. Prabhat Kumar is an A-Grade artist of All India Radio, from where he has been regularly performing. He has also been presented National Program of Music (Sarod) through Doordarshan (national television ) and All India Radio. He is also an approved panel artist of Indian Council of Cultural Relations, New Delhi.
Prabhat began recital with the quiet dignity of the methodical and reposeful alap in Raga Puriya Kalyan. This was followed by jod and Jhala. After this he moved on to present two gats in teen taal which were a variant of the usual Sarod playing. His rhythmic and melodic vitality shone throughout his performance.
He then moved on to present Raga Basant set composition was set to teen taal. Prabhat concluded his recital with a Dhun in Rag Zila Kafi followed by Ragmala amid thunderous applause. He was well accompanied by famous tabla exponent Abhishek Mishra on Tabla , Indranil Bhowmik and Priyanka Rawat on taanpura. Kendra Registrar Dr. Shobha Koser and Secretary Sh. Sajal Koser honored the artists. Dr. Samira Koser compare the stage very gracefully.
