Parallel Wireless Wins Two Prestigious Aegis Graham Bell Award 2019

All G software-based `Innovative Telecom Solution’ is helping telcos across the world to connect the unconnected and bring down the operational expenditure

New Delhi, India, 1st February 2019: Parallel Wireless, Inc., the leader in providing the world’s first end-to-end software-based network solutions for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, has won the prestigious Aegis Graham Bell award 2019 for two categories of `Innovative Telecom Solution’ and `Innovation in Smart City’.

Aegis Graham Bell Awards (AGBA) promote innovations and entrepreneurship in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) domain. The awards were instituted eight years back by Aegis School of Business, Data Science, Cyber Security and Telecommunication to honor and reward organizations which make an outstanding contribution in these fields.

Aegis Graham Bell Award for `Innovative Telecom Solution’ is awarded to Parallel Wireless for HetNet Gateway, next-generation virtualized 2G/3G/4G/5G software platform.

As the Indian service providers start to move towards 5G, HetNet Gateway (HNG) can help them in simplifying the network by unifying all Gs under the same software. This significantly brings down the expenditure by doing away with the need to install or upgrade new equipment. HetNet Gateway empowers the service providers to use the same network architecture to provide 2G, 3G, 4G or 5G services.

Service providers across the globe, including EE, Telefonica, and Optus, among others, are leveraging this approach to connect the unconnected and to bring down their expenditure. Vodafone India used the technology to run 3G and 4G services on the legacy equipment and recorded a 30% drop in operational expenditure without any impact on quality. Because this solution is multi-technology (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi), it allows operators to transform their networks today while preparing for the networks of tomorrow.

On the other hand, Parallel Wireless’s Converged Wireless System multi-technology base station bagged the award in the Innovation in Smart City category.

The award-winning solution essentially uses a balloon to provide temporary coverage in an area, which might require connectivity because of an emergency or additional network capacity because of an event. A standalone LTE/4G base station with integrated wireless backhaul is set up on the balloon. Power is supplied from the ground. It is self-configurable and thus doesn’t require any local intervention. The height of the balloon and the power of small cells decides the area that is covered by the radio frequencies emitted from the small cell. Parallel Wireless Small Cell and Wireless Backhaul module link back to its HetNet Gateway.
