Spontaneous, simple and direct communication between machines

Adaptability to demand, efficiency, simplicity, networking – these are the defining buzzwords for today”s industry. In a smart factory it is essential for the entire production system to be networked and able to access all process and assembly data at any time. It is particularly important for SMT lines made up of systems from different manufacturers to guarantee that such networking also remains independent of the manufacturer. All of this can be achieved easily with the “Hermes Standard”. For the convection soldering system VisionXP+, Rehm Thermal Systems offers two variants with “The Hermes Standard”.

Fast, network-based communication between the individual machines is enabled by the Hermes Standard: an option that was unavailable with the previous SMEMA standard. For this reason, an independent group of leading SMT equipment manufacturers, including Rehm Thermal Systems, has come together to develop a new interface: The Hermes Standard. With the previous SMEMA interface, communication from individual machines was reduced to digital signals: Machines did not communicate directly with each other; instead, the circuit board data was held in the MES systems at a higher level. A scanner was required in front of each machine to identify the assemblies.

By contrast, the Hermes Standard links the individual machines together via a direct form of horizontal communication. Data is exchanged throughout the entire SMT line, directly from machine to machine (M2M), and the data packets move through the machine together with the circuit boards. The Hermes data package is initially created at the start of the production line. There the barcode is printed, lasered or read in via a scanner. This data package is now communicated from machine to machine together with the circuit board. The new extension of the vertical interface introduced with Hermes 1.2 allows the circuit boards to be tracked in a production line or provides the option of synchronising the assembly”s data with an MES. This new form of interface communication is via TCP/IP and XML-based protocol, which uses standardised Ethernet hardware components and a flexible data format. This simplifies the integration process and reduces costs. In addition to the barcode of the assembly, other types of data (e.g. product, width, transport speed and similar) are communicated.

Customers of Rehm Thermal Systems seeking Hermes interface communication for the convection soldering system VisionXP+ can choose between two versions: one with a scanner on the outfeed conveyor and one without. Without the scanner on the outfeed conveyor it is not possible to manually reinsert a board. This reduces the risk of data being lost or being assigned to the wrong assemblies. If a scanner is present on the outfeed conveyor, boards can be removed after soldering and reinserted as the user requires. This is particularly important if a visual inspection is performed manually or if random samples are to be taken for quality assurance purposes. The correct assignment of data to the correct board is nevertheless preserved.

The convection soldering systems of the VisionX series from Rehm are also CFX-ready. With the CFX interface (IPC-CFX), communication is vertical and network-based. While the Hermes Standard is used primarily for M2M communication, the CFX is used for data uploading and downloading and for data analysis. The combination of horizontal Hermes communication and vertical CFX communication is absolutely necessary for a smart factory in the long run and represents a further step towards standardisation.

High Process Reliability Thanks to Filter Monitoring with Active Readjustment

To achieve the best possible soldering results, the actual melting process of the solder paste isn”t all that matters: when soldering highly complex electronic components, the cooling of the component that is to be soldered plays an important role, too. The filter monitoring and volume flow control that is integrated in the VisionX series of convection soldering systems from Rehm Thermal Systems ensures effective residue management and constant cooling performance, thus supporting a stable and safe process atmosphere for soldering.

When melting the solder paste within the process chamber, process gases may arise; these in turn can contaminate the cooling modules and the fine filter. As a result, the volume flow of the cooling process (which should be as constant as possible) is restricted or reduced, thus causing an insufficient amount of process gas to be fed through the filter. At the same time, less gas means less cooling capacity, and this can lead to an increase in the outflow temperature – or to a change in the cooling gradient on the components. To ensure a safe and stable process, the correct outflow temperature and a constant cooling gradient of the soldered component are very important.

As part of predictive maintenance, via the integrated control system, the filter monitoring with active readjustment automatically detects if the volume flow falls below the flow rate that has been individually set by the customer for their production requirements. This indicates that a filter change is imminent. Until this change is made, the system automatically adapts the volume flow by means of active readjustment in order to reliably maintain the process by increasing the cooling capacity. For this purpose, the set gas flow rate in the process chamber is continuously compared with the value that is actually being identified.

Filter monitoring with active readjustment thus guarantees high process reliability and ensures an optimum reflow soldering process with constant flow conditions.

Prostage presents the WAHryTone

Prostage presents a brand new effects device: The WAHryTone!
The Prostage WAHryTone is first and foremost a pure analog WahWah with extended effect range. The adjustable frequency range of the WAHryTone extends into the baritone range. But the WAHryTone can vary your tone also as a Contour Boost, Treble Boost, Tremolo and Volume pedal. Thanks to the various adjustable parameters, you can create your own Signature Wah and save up to 128 different effect settings. The signal path of the WAHryTone is purely analog, using a yellow Fasel coil for the WahWah effect. Thus the WAHryTone offers the best of two worlds: Analog heart, digital brain!

– Pure analog audio circuit (using a Fasel Coil)
– 18 volt operation
– Controlled via app, expression pedal and MIDI
– Auto Wah and Tremolo function with tap tempo
– Auto enable function
– 128 different sounds can be stored
– Easy creation of presets, using the Prostage Remote Control app

The WAHryTone also offers various auto-Wah modes; e.g. a dynamic Wah where the effect responds to velocity. The WAHryTone is controlled with an external expression pedal or via MIDI and can therefore also be used as a rack Wah. The advantage of a rack mounted effects unit is obvious, because you need several meters of guitar cable less and the associated sound and dynamic losses are omitted.
You can simply adjust the effect parameters and store presets using the Prostage Remote Control App (iOs + Android). And finally, the WAHryTone comes with a tuner which is displayed on your mobile phone, tablet or the large Prostage Tuner & Text display.

Getting Started with ecoDMS – Quick and Easy Steps to an Optimum Archiving System

ecoDMS GmbH has released a new video on the popular ecoDMS document management system. This makes it even easier to start professional document archiving. In this video, the company from Aachen presents the core components of ecoDMS and shows which software and initial steps are necessary for the installation. The video can be viewed via the official ecoDMS YouTube channel. The direct link to the video is https://youtu.be/fx0C3safquo.

ecoDMS enables the storage of documents, emails and other files in one central digital archive. The system is composed of the base systems, which are the ecoDMS server, the ecoDMS client and the virtual PDF/A printer. As an option, there are various plugins and add-ons for email clients and Office applications.

Being a client-server system, the system is based on the ecoDMS server. It is installed once on a central computer, a server hardware or a NAS. The ecoDMS client and the available plugins can be installed on any number of other supported devices. Before installation customers must check their system environment. The system requirements for the ecoDMS software are also available on the ecoDMS website.

ecoDMS can be used in a network and as a single-seat solution. If the software is being used as a single-seat solution, all ecoDMS components can be installed on a single PC or laptop. If several seats and users are to work with the archiving system, the ecoDMS server should be installed on a central, accessible device. The other users can then access the system through their desktop and web client using a connection and plugins.

ecoDMS can already be preconfigured for business or private customers during the initial installation under Windows. In this case the first settings are made. This includes, for example, various document types and a rough folder tree. These settings, of course, can be edited or enhanced later.

The client logs on through the connection manager. This is automatically installed with the ecoDMS client and provides the connection to the ecoDMS server. To use the web client, you do not need to be connected through the connection manager. To log on to the system, the required credentials must be entered according to the manual. The default user “ecodms” with the homonymous password can be used for the first logon. The password should be changed after the first logon for security reasons.

A new installation of ecoDMS is automatically a 30-day trial version, so customers can test the features for private and business application. If no license is entered, the Free4Three edition is activated following the trial period. This is exclusively intended for private users who may use this version with restricted functionality for free and for an unlimited period. The license is entered in the Settings dialogue box in the ecoDMS client. The license code is entered and activated by clicking the “Activate” button. Once a new connection has been established, the full version of the document management system can be used with all its useful functions for scanning, archiving, managing and retrieving all documents.
